Cat Brady, a GAP MTB Team member, found solace in mountain biking during the pandemic. Despite returning to her career as an Airline Pilot, her dedication to the sport remains unwavering.
Cat Brady has been part of the GAP MTB Team for the past two years. During Covid Cat lost her job as an Airline Pilot and decided to devote more time to her love of MTB with her new found free time. She had been biking for a number of years at that point but between her job, horse riding, kite surfing and any adrenaline filled activity she could partake in, there was not enough time to improve her skills to a level where she felt she could take on the more technical trails safely. The GAP community became her sanctuary and she managed to finally clear the River Gap which had been a mere dream to conquer previously. Thankfully Aviation recovered and she is now back at the day job but her passion for mountain biking has well and truly been solidified.Â

2022 was a busy year for me mountain biking. I took part in the Vitus Irish Gravity Enduro Series where I was absolutely delighted to take the overall in my category, I also did two of the Grassroots Enduro Series which I loved, and my passion for Downhill was definitively ignited when I took part in the IDMS Downhill Series but my favourite race of 2022 was The GAP Team Enduro where I partnered with my husband in the Mixed Category, we were thrilled to take the win and it was such a fun event. In 2023 I didn’t get to participate in as many races due to work clashing with many of them but I really enjoyed the ones that I managed to attend. For me personally, competing is not really about the podiums, though they are always nice to achieve of course, but it’s more about the camaraderie and enjoyment to be had at these events. My aim this year is to partake in as many Downhill races as possible and I may even take my E-Bike out for the Enduro competitions! What brings me the most joy in mountain biking is to see so many more women now out on the trails and not only that but competing at such a high level in the Enduro and Downhill events.
